EA Announces Sims Stories

Sim meets girl, Sim loses girl, Sim goes to the potty. That's the general
plot behind a new directed line of Sims games coming from Electronic Arts.
These new games are designed to be played in smaller time increments and
follow a general script - and they'll run well on an average laptop
computer.
Check our story out for details on shipping, and the new Sims titles -
including one that sounds like a Sims version of Nintendogs.

How Skype's New Project Actually Works

It's called Joost, and it aims to upend the world of broadcast television.
Developed by the founders of Skype and Kazaa, it might actually succeed! We
spent some time with the CEO today, and got some good insight on how the
service works, who might use it, and how they'll work with content
providers. It's not user-generated content, but the folks at companies like
Brightcove should be concerned. Our interview, and more details, can be
found here.

How I Turned My Treo into an iPhone

I've been wondering how long it would take for someone to borrow Apple's
iPhone interface and graft it onto an existing phone.
Less than a week, it turns out. Some clever folks in Australia have created
a new skin for the Treo 650 that looks just like Apple's iPhone, which isn't
due until June. It really works too!
I modded my Treo in minutes. Apple, alas, was not amused - it's suing to
have the mod removed from the Web. Check out my new Treo - it looks
fantastic - and read all about this clever hack.
Good luck finding it! Oh, and Lance Ulanoff is marveling about Apple's
marketing. You can read about that here.

MySpace Adds Parental Notifications

Do you know where your kids are clicking? With new software from MySpace,
called Zephyr, you'll know just a little bit more.
Thirty-three U.S. states are considering actions against MySpace, because it
lets children as young as 14 (if they don't lie about their age) onto the
site. What will Zephyr do? When will it be available? Our story has the
details.

Intel Profit Tanks

The battle with AMD is taking a toll on Intel. The company's quarterly
profit dropped by 40 percent, and it doesn't expect things to get better
this year. Why are things so bad? Our story has the details. Plus we've got
a report on how Intel is looking to close its chip plant in Jerusalem, and
unload another plan in Israel. Check out our story about why, and what it
means.

Symantec Also Has Bad Quarter

Things didn't work out so well for security vendor Symantec in the fourth
quarter either. The company missed expectations, and the stock dropped as a
result. What's going on there? Our story has the insight.

Microsoft Fights Back, Claims Vista is Secure

Microsoft claims that it has closed many of the big loopholes that let
malware writers ride roughshod over Windows. And there are some nice new
features in Vista that will help keep you safer. Some, though, are so
annoying you'll probably end up turning them off - like UAC, for example.
What's UAC? Why is Microsoft optimistic about Vista's security? Our story
goes behind the news to analyze what's going on with Vista, and why you
might actually be safer this time around.

Vista Safer?

Vista Tablets Come of Age

Tablet computing never really caught on, in part because Windows XP just
didn't support pen input that well. But now Vista is here, and the tablet is
an equal partner. We've just rounded up three cool new tablet PCs - from
Toshiba's amazing iPod-esque Tablet to OQO's tiny pocket-size PC. Check out
the reviews and see how Vista is changing Tablet PCs.
