The Anti-iPhones (Part II)
A Fresh Crop of BlackBerrys
Four Ways to Cut the RAZR2
The Best VoIP Services

The Anti-iPhones (Part II)
You'd be hard-pressed to find a person who hasn't been at least a little tempted by Apple's slick iPhone. But let's face it: The iPhone isn't for everyone in terms of price, features, and carrier. The good news, though, is that there are tons of other smartphones out on the market that can do what the iPhone can—and in some cases do it even better. Take the two neat phones from HTC and BlackBerry in this roundup as proof. Check all of them out on PCMag.com.

Plus: See What Made the List in Part I

A Fresh Crop of BlackBerrys
If you aren't using a BlackBerry yet, one of the new models may well turn you into a believer. Like ripened blackberries waiting to be picked, RIM's new crop of BlackBerry smartphones is available from various cell phone carriers. On the whole, they are terrific for both texting and e-mail. Check out the reviews of five new faves on PCMag.com.

Four Ways to Cut the RAZR2
The Motorola RAZR2, introduced this past summer, is a pocketable slab of metal and glass with a truly luxurious feel. Whichever model you get, it will be one of the best voice phones this year. But depending on which carrier you choose (Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon), you'll be getting an entirely different user experience. In this roundup, we look inside four different offerings of the RAZR2 to find out what makes each one special (or not). Read all the reviews on PCMag.com.

The Best VoIP Services
Some of us still like to have a home phone in addition to our cell. But old-fashioned POTS (plain old telephone service) isn't the only option, because voice over IP isn't just for the tech elite anymore—anyone who can set up a router can get these services up and running. Across the board, the top VoIP companies deliver reliable, high-quality connections and all the calling, voice mail, and Internet features you could want, with plans starting at just $16.99 a month for domestic calling. (Compare that with your regular landline costs.) Here are five of the best services for you to consider.

More Phone Reviews:

T-Mobile Sidekick LX
The Sidekick LX is fine for IM and basic e-mails, but some of its other features aren't nearly as luxurious as its sprawling keyboard and big, high-res display.

Nokia E65
The Nokia E65 unlocked business slider is a sharp, professional midrange pick.

TOTAL SYSTEM DISRUPTION, PART 2

Two years ago, I wrote a column, "Katrina's total system disruption,"
that highlighted the complete anarchy in the wake of that storm and argued
for smarter predictive modeling to better understand not just the likelihood
of extreme environmental events but also the human response to those events.
The issue at the time, you may recall, was that a couple hundred thousand
people failed to safely evacuate New Orleans, with disastrous consequences.

NEC LAUNCHES FASTEST VECTOR SUPERCOMPUTER

NEC is selling what it says is the fastest vector supercomputer in the
world. The SX-9 is based on a new processor developed by the Tokyo company
that boasts a performance of over 100G Flops (floating point operations per
second). Up to 16 of the chips can be fitted into a single node and up to
512 nodes can be built together to create what would likely be one of the
most powerful computers in the world -- a computer with a theoretical peak
processing power of 839T Flops (teraflops).
